Philosophy was born out of a heartfelt desire unlock the power of business to create positive and sustainable change. Acting as partners and trusted advisors, we enable our clients to take effective action on the most material issues affecting people, profit and planet. Our thoughtful businesses approach is designed to help businesses navigate a complex and ever-shifting sustainability landscape with the confidence that comes from integrity and a clearly defined business philosophy.
As part of this, we provide our employees and subcontractors with our Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, which will serve as a guide to proper business conduct for all colleagues. We expect all employees and subcontractors to observe the highest standards of ethics and integrity in their conduct. This means following a basic code of ethical behaviour that includes the following:
| Secret Ingredients | How this translates into behaviour |
| Thoughtful | We are both Considerate and Considering. We balance the needs of the client/business with the needs of the world (planet & society). |
| Courageous | We are determined to pursue progress and have the courage to maintain the right course, even against difficult headwinds. We use wisdom over fear. |
| Challenging | We are a critical friend. We help our clients consider the alternative/other lens/view/think from all angles. |
| Human | We show up to work as our true selves; with honesty and mutual respect for colleagues, clients and others. |
| Playful | We don’t let the work get in the way of fun. Life is difficult enough. Also see: “Human”. |
| Curious | We look beneath the surface and around the edges. We don’t accept business as usual. We listen before we talk. |
To make our Code work, managers must be responsible for promptly addressing ethical questions or concerns raised by employees and for taking the appropriate steps to deal with such issues. Managers should not consider employees’ ethics concerns as threats or challenges to their authority, but rather as another encouraged form of business communication. At Philosophy, we want the ethics dialogue to become a natural part of daily work.
Philosophy’s commitment to integrity begins with complying with laws, rules and regulations where we do business. Further, each of us must have an understanding of the company policies, laws, rules and regulations that apply to our specific roles. If we are unsure of whether a contemplated action is permitted by law or Philosophy Consulting Ltd policy, we should seek advice from the resource expert. We are responsible for preventing violations of the law and for speaking up if we see possible violations.
We are dedicated to ethical, fair and vigorous competition. We will sell Philosophy Consulting Ltd products and services based on their merit, superior quality, functionality and competitive pricing. We will make independent pricing and marketing decisions and will not improperly cooperate or coordinate our activities with our competitors. We will not offer or solicit improper payments or gratuities in connection with the purchase of goods or services for Philosophy Consulting Ltd or the sales of its products or services, nor will we engage or assist in unlawful boycotts of particular customers.
We will not selectively disclose (whether in one-on-one or small discussions, meetings, presentations, proposals or otherwise) any material non-public information concerning Philosophy, business operations, plans, financial condition, results of operations or any development plan. We should be particularly vigilant when making presentations or proposals to customers to ensure that our presentations do not contain material non-public information.
The most important overriding principle behind our Code of Conduct is our collective desire for the work that we do to create a more positive social, economic or environmental impact on the world. We strive to consider the potential impacts of the work that we do, and pledge our commitment to helping clients and partners to define, demonstrate and articulate an improved social or environmental impact on every project we work on.
There is no dress code at Philosophy – we want everyone who represents us to feel comfortable, included and themselves. So we expect our team to arrive promptly to all meetings, well-prepared and alert. This extends to our clients from whom we expect to be extended the same courtesy. If you find that a client or partner you are working with consistently abuses this element of mutual respect we’d like you to tell Sophie, so it can be addressed it with them.
