Last Friday, Philosophy was honoured to receive the Purpose & Stakeholder Governance Spotlight at the Oxfordshire+ B Local Impact Showcase event, held at the historic University of Oxford Exam Schools.
The event brought together businesses from across the region to celebrate organisations leading the way across the seven impact topics of the new B Corp Standards, which opened for submissions this month. Rather than a traditional awards ceremony, the morning showcased companies nominated by their peers for demonstrating leadership in each of these areas.
We were honoured to receive the Purpose & Stakeholder Governance spotlight from our peers, presented by Amy Clarke, Co-Chair of B Lab UK and Founder of Tribe Impact Capital. In introducing the category, Amy highlighted how governance forms the foundation of responsible business.
As one of our nominators kindly noted:
“Through their advisory work, they help organisations integrate stakeholder thinking, impact measurement and long-term value creation into governance structures. Their influence extends beyond clients into movement building and collective action.”
We feel this captures the spirit of our work well. Purpose and stakeholder governance extends beyond internal business management; it also plays a critical role in providing a clear ethical framework to guide our consultancy advice to clients, as well as guiding the way we nurture and build relationships across our broader stakeholder community of partners.
Co-founder Sophie Brooks commented:
“We value the camaraderie and purposeful spirit of the two local communities of Oxfordshire and Cornwall, where we are based very highly, so it was particularly gratifying to have been recognised amongst our peers in what is effectively our first year of operation as a new venture. “
Philosophy was recognised alongside an inspiring group of Spotlight winners: Oxygen (Climate Action), Y.O.U Underwear (Human Rights), New Ground Coffee (Fair Work), Legacy Events (Environmental Stewardship & Circularity), Oxford HR (Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion), and Walsh’s Learning to Achieve (Government Affairs & Collective Action).
More broadly, the event was a powerful reminder of the strength of the Oxfordshire+ B Local community. The morning brought together businesses, academics and sector leaders, including Dr Karen Cripps of Oxford Brookes University, Richard Scarlett from Oxfordshire County Council, and Amy Clarke, who kindly presented the spotlights, highlighting the interconnected role of responsible business in the wider community.
Thank you to everyone involved in organising such a thoughtful and energising event. We’re proud to be part of such an inspiring community and optimistic about the collective impact we can continue to create together.
