The Client

ENSO is a UK-based tyre technology company reinventing tyres for electric vehicles by engineering products that reduce tyre particulate pollution, extend EV range and improve environmental performance compared with conventional tyresTyre wear is the second-largest source of primary microplastic pollution in the ocean and a major contributor to air pollution in cities. ENSO work with delivery fleets, logistic companies, and EV manufacturers to drive cleaner, more sustainable mobility. ENSO was the first tyre company certified as a B Corporation, and was a finalist in The Earthshot Prize – Clean Our Air category in 2023. 

The Challenge

Having been certified as a B Corp early on in its growth journey, when the company was still pre-revenue, although its mission was clear, many of its sustainability practices had developed organically. So, when ENSO entered its first recertification cycle in 2025 as a more established business they sought specialist support from Philosophy to strengthen performance across all five impact areas (B Corp standards version 1.6), ensuring accurate, evidence-based responses.

The company identified early on that recertification presented an opportunity to formalise policies, improve data quality, and strengthen governance. ENSO was keen to maximise the value of recertification – not just to maintain certification, but to use the process to build stronger foundations for long-term social and environmental impact.

The Approach

Philosophy worked closely with ENSO to provide practical, targeted support through their B Corp recertification. This included:

  • A focused review of ENSO’s B Impact Assessment and business process and practices, as well as workshop sessions with the team, culminating in an agreed action plan
  • Advice and guidance on priority areas of improvement in governance, supplier management, environmental monitoring and impact reporting.
  • Supporting the development of a carbon footprint for the latest year, establishing a baseline to inform future reduction planning and reporting.

This work enabled ENSO to embed a more systematic and scalable approach to managing its social and environmental impact, aligning with best practice and B Lab guidance. Throughout, we provided hands-on guidance to ensure improvements were well-evidenced and verification-ready, which helped ENSO to build a more mature sustainability framework for its next phase of growth.

The Deliverables

Through this collaborative recertification process, ENSO was able to:

  • Successfully recertify as a B Corp
  • Update and enhance its governance, ethics and decision-making frameworks
  • Strengthen supplier engagement and responsible procurement practices
  • Establish its first carbon footprint and environmental data baselines
  • Enhance impact reporting with clearer metrics, targets and KPIs

By ENSO approaching recertification as a tool for improvement, it has prepared the company for its next chapter of mission-led growth, where long-term social and environmental value are embedded into the strategy.
